We love Charleston, and planned to stay for about a week to get boat work done, take Pepper to the vet, eat good food and have some fun.

Charleston, SC at The Mega Dock
Days 36 – 43
We have stayed at Charleston by boat several times, so it is familiar and we are comfortable at The Charleston City Marina, otherwise known as “The Mega Dock”. The docks are excellent, the views of the river are nice and the staff is professional. Although the tourist areas of town are about a mile walk, the marina runs a free shuttle if you are feeling lazy, and there is a huge brand new Publix just a few blocks away. We love staying here.

Our trips to Edisto Beach in our Airstream made us anxious to return – by boat! – and we wanted to say Hi! to our buddy George, the World’s Grumpiest Bartender.
Day 46, November 29
One of our favorite camping destinations in our little Airstream Bambi is Edisto Beach State Park. We love the simplicity and natural beauty, the lovely long undeveloped stretch of protected beach, and Whaley’s Store – a self-described dive bar with great fresh seafood and — wait for it — the World’s Grumpiest Bartender. We had been looking forward to our visit to Charleston for pretty much, well, forever. Who doesn’t? Characterized by laidback gracious hospitality and historic homes, Charleston is magnetic.
