We had to admit it: the time to leave Key West had arrived. We planned our exit strategy and began the trek up the island chain. On the road again.
Day 127, February 17, 2019
Yes, time to leave Key West. While we had enjoyed our stay, we were ready to be on the move again.
Executing the departure was tricky. We looked out a week and contemplated the weather patterns and stops along the way. Both proved to be complicated, especially since the Miami Boat Show was looming large and a lot of boats seemed to have flooded into the keys to escape Miami. Accommodations were in short supply. Key West, Part #1 was about loss and grief. While that is not what I would wish of Key West, it is what it was. There is another side, though, and this is that story.
Days 84 – 127, January 6 – February 17, 2019
Our visit to Key West was split into two distinct segments, as the previous post makes clear. I’m not really going to define our experiences in Key West in terms of how they were in the first part or the second part, even though they were different. Instead, I just want to talk about the Key West that we experienced overall. Continue reading Key West, Part #2→
We loved Key West. The boat was there for about six weeks, much longer than we had originally planned, for both good and very bad reasons. It is a difficult story to tell. I will tell of our visit in two parts. This is Part 1.
Days 84 – 127, January 6 – February 17, 2019
I really would like this to be about all the wonderful fun that Key West has to offer. And I will do some of that, but in a separate post. This one has to be a post about painful loss. Both are part of cruising, and life, so I will tell the story as best I can. Continue reading Key West, Part #1: Loss and Grief→
The long-overdue (and possibly temporary) post to fill in the last two missing months of cruising. Pardon the much-too-lengthy post.
Days 56 – 84, December 9, 2018 – January 6, 2019
The last post was St. Augustine, which seems a lifetime ago. An update is long overdue. I would still like to complete detailed posts for each segment of our trip, and I may attempt to do that at a later date, but for now, I simply want to fill in the blanks to bring this record up to date. To that end, I will use a broad-brush to simply document our path and the places we have visited. This will cover our route from St. Augustine in early December, when the holidays were just grinding into gear, to our arrival in Key West just after the New Year. 2019 has arrived. Continue reading Catching Up: Where Have We Been?→
We had looked forward to this visit because of St. Augustine’s reputation as a fine stop along the ICW. In the end, as a destination it has both highs and lows.
Day 52 – 55, December 5 – 8
Our visit to St. Augustine started with a big happy knock on the hull. We were just settling into our slip at the Municipal Marina and thinking about how to spend our time when we had that unmistakable knock-knock-knock. Who’s there? Total strangers! It’s that Facebook thing again… Tim and Diane off the Kadey Krogen Acadia had come to visit, bearing gifts no less. SPAM! and Key Lime Pie!!! How on earth did they know??
