After a really fun six-day stay in Napa, playing with friends, eating exceptionally well and–of course–drinking rather too much wine, it was time to hit the road again.
We left our pleasant little campground at Skyline Wilderness Park east of Napa and headed west through the rolling hills towards the coast on routes 12 and 116 until we ran into Route 1 and and the Pacific Ocean. Continue reading The PCH: Best of the Trip (So Far)
Five days and six nights in Napa, and all of it great fun.
We left Half Moon Bay State Park by mid-morning after a beautiful walk with the dogs on the multi-use path that runs along the bluffs over the beach, looking out at the Pacific Ocean. It was great for all four of us to get some exercise together in such a beautiful spot before getting on the road once again.

Our boat is scheduled for completion in less than a month. While the good folks at Tomco will not (understandably) put a pin on the calendar, they have consistently targeted “late March” and are still holding to that goal.
These photographs are from early this week — the last days of February — so we are truly in countdown mode.
Whenever we asked people what we should see and do as we crossed Texas, the universal answer was “Big Bend!” They were right.
We drove west to Big Bend National Park from Seminole Canyon State Park. It was a fascinating trip, as we have never experienced the dessert and these roads took us through so many different iterations of desert features. It was a stunning drive. Continue reading Big Bend National Park
I think we are in the desert.
For a couple of gringos, today’s travel brought dramatic new scenery. We’ve never seen desert before, so every turn in the road was a fun surprise. On a whim, we decided to point the Ram towards Seminole Canyon State Park. Great choice! Continue reading Seminole Canyon
